This piece comes from a place of pure shape language, moving away from my typical style of figures intermingled with abstract gestures and symbolism. Instead, this piece is like a moving symphony. The shapes coalesce to form a super-cluster of geometry. I created this piece to communicate my feelings of art as a means to describe our senses. While language can describe an idea in so many words, visual art communicates said idea in such a way that is specific to each viewer. In order to start the conversation about the metaphysical aspects of our world, and how the mind forms our perception of reality, this piece was incepted.

This is one of my larger works, drawn carefully with charcoal pencils, makeup sponges dipped in charcoal powder, and kneaded erasers on a 30" x 40" cut of watercolor paper. The work has an emphasis on gestural forms, making sure to delineate the edges and shadows between shapes to give the work a defined, three dimensional space. This "mental landscape" connotates an image that is not real, yet defined spatially within a real environment, similar to how our thoughts and ideas manifest in our mind's eye. The original work is framed in a custom built picture frame shown below. This picture frame is built from ethically sourced lumber, with the piece floated on lauan plywood with a 1 inch gap from the frame, and a 1/4 inch gap from the glass.

The prints of my work is printed on 330 gsm hot press archival print paper. This museum quality print faithfully captures the fine details of the work down to the individual pencil marks. This print has no border. This decision was made due to the white negative space utilized in the work as well as maximizing the space available in the print. The print is rolled carefully into mailing tubes to avoid creasing or other damage during shipping.
